I have just setup my first linkblog and connect it to my del.icio.us. It was an fairly easy task and hopefully my links will be also usefull for someone else than me.

Linkblog should be also a good backup for all the links to be extra sure. There is just never enough backups.

The trickiest part of this setup was the connection to del.icio.us. I searched the web and found the solution. As it turns out del.icio.us has a mechanism to automatically make daily posts with fresh links on blog.

Add new thingy

If you go in del.icio.us account under settings there are some experimental tools. One of this tools is “daily blog posting”. When you click on this link one messed up page will open. Here you should click on “add a new thingy”. Now you will see an user unfriendly form.
The add new thingy form should be filled as follows:

ob_name - the name of the “new thingy” in the daily posting listing. This is for your reference only and it can be anything.

out_name - the username you use for signing in your blog

out_pass - the password you use for signing in your blog

out_url - url address of xmlrpc script on your blog. For wordpress this is http://[your domain name]/xmlrpc.php, for others it should be something like http://[your domain name]/mt-xmlrpc.cgi (this should work on MovableType)

 out_time - how much is your time different from GMT? .., -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, …

out_blog_id - if you use wordpress you can just put in 1, for some other, multiple blog systems you will need to fill in the actual id of your blog

out_cat_id - category id to put links under. In wordpress go to admin and then under manage->categories chose category for your delicious links. In out_cat_id field you should input ID and not name of the category!

When your done filling in the form just press the “Submit Query” button and this should do the trick.

Del.icio.us daily post formatter

If you use wordpress, you can easily transform formatting sent by del.icio.us with plugin called Delicious Daily Posting Formatter. I’m testing it out and for now all I can say is neat and simple to use.
